Nevertheless, I went ahead to see it and I was not disappointed.

Set in the 70s, Cruella is a girl whose dreams of being a fashion designer come true after she redesigned a dress for the Baroness, one of the big names in the fashion industry at the time. She ends up working for her until she finds out that she's a narcissistic bitch who would do anything to remain in power. Kind of like the Nigerian government. This movie gave me The Devil wears Prada vibes, but less enjoyable.

Cruella is based on the novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians by Dodie Smith in which she steals dalmatian dogs in order to make fur coats with their skin. I think this is supposed to be a prequel of sorts as it tells of the origins of Cruella. The idea of trying to create a backstory as to why a villain turned out the way they did is honestly getting tiring. I'd be much happier knowing that she's a bad bitch just because she's a bad bitch, not because of some traumatic childhood.

Emma Stone plays Estella/Cruella. Her performance did not cut it for me. For someone who had been one person her whole life, her transition into Cruella was not believable and it felt forced at some point that I thought she was faking it. Of all her movies that I've seen, this was the worst performance for me.

Emma Thompson plays the Baroness and was quite the villain. I would say she pulled a Meryl Streep from The Devil wears Prada, but way more evil. I wasn't really into her character though, maybe because it felt familiar or it just wasn't memorable.

I'm actually surprised this movie has so many good reviews. It was long and boring and had no character development in any way. This movie fell short in that it was supposed to show us the gradual ascent/descent of Estella to Cruella(depending on how you look at it), but it kept circling on one spot. Emma Stone was literally the same from start to finish.

The only thing that stood out for me was the soundtrack. I found myself listening to Blondie and Queen all over again and it was obvious that the 70s was a very rock-star decade. The costumes which most people loved was really just average for me but hey, I'm no fashionista.

I'll rate this movie 6 out of 10.
Abisola Jegedehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190348096776244532noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-925740676720991489.post-66633347526029077792021-06-08T21:17:00.003+01:002021-06-08T21:22:16.018+01:00Wrath of Man
As a huge action movie fan, it is my responsibility to watch every blockbuster action film that gets released. Action and horror movies tend to keep me on the edge of my seat and that's a feeling I wouldn't pass up for anything. Guy Ritchie, the director is known for his great storytelling and we see this in some of his previous movies like Sherlock Holmes and The Man from UNCLE. Wrath of Man did not have a great story line, but like his other movies, he keeps you on the edge of your seat with the suspense, thrill and intensity. It had the typical Guy Ritchie signature: the timelines and the sound effect.

Basically, Jason Statham plays a man who is trying to avenge the death of his son. That's literally it. Fun fact, Jason Statham made his acting debut in Guy Ritchie's film and they have gone on to collaborate 3 times after that, this being the fourth.

I thought the movie was unnecessarily long. There were some scenes that I don't think deserved much detail. Most Jason Statham movies end the same way: Jason giving us badass fight scenes and bad guys end up dead, although we didn't get to see a lot of action here.

Jason Statham was Jason Statham. Angry and deadly. He's established himself as an action movie anti-hero and that's just how we like him. It'd be weird if he played a different kind of role. He's up there with Van Damme, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. No depth to their roles, just kill or be killed.

Josh Hartnett was the character that surprised me, not because he was outstanding but because I didn't know he was still acting, let alone a supporting character. He was huge in the 2000s, having given us Lucky Number Slevin, Black Hawk Down and Black Dahlia after which he disappeared, or so I thought. One of his worst performances and also very forgettable.

This movie was very average and quite boring at some point. For a Guy Ritchie movie, I was not very impressed.

I'll rate it 6 out of 10.
Abisola Jegedehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190348096776244532noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-925740676720991489.post-42966052017410134172021-05-09T20:41:00.007+01:002021-05-11T16:36:49.792+01:00Tenet
I’ve decided to do the unthinkable and write about Tenet. Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite directors and there’s no movie he directs that I wouldn’t watch. He has a reputation for putting out complex and mind-boggling movies like Inception and Interstellar and honestly, understanding his movies kind of makes me feel smart.

That being said, I have seen Tenet 3 times and I can say that I did not understand shit. I’m not even angry because it’s okay. Robert Pattison apparently did not understand what was going on while filming so that’s quite comforting to me. There’s a reason I failed Physics in school.

Hold up, it’s not that deep yo! Hi Everyone, Yimika here (an intelligent friend who knows more about Physics even though this knowledge is not really useful for this review) who's decided to help Aby with this movie. I should say first that Christopher Nolan, who I’ve only recently been able to identify in a solo picture, did an AMAZING job with this movie in that it really grabs your attention and you wouldn’t want to miss a thing. However, being glued is the exact thing that could confuse you as some of the detail is quite unnecessary in the grand scheme of the movie.

On a high-level, this is every apocalyptic movie (somewhere here, Aby and I argued about whether this is really an apocalyptic movie but if she knew so much, I wouldn’t be here) which has the added complexity of your typical time-travel movie, like Avengers: Endgame where Thanos was trying to reduce the population of earth because earthlings (you and I) are a nuisance and our actions now will create chaos in the future — seriously, let’s be smart about how we use this planet.

So all that’s happened in Tenet is, the future has sent people back in time to come save impending doom in the present, doom that was also initiated in the future. As for all the moving backward? It’s simply showing what happens as people are travelling back. In most other time-travel movies, all you see is someone go into a machine and come out in their desired moment. However, in Tenet, you get to see the person literally move backward, experiencing the things that already happened but in reverse, until they can find a machine that inverts them to move forward again. Being that this is a review, there’s no need to go over the intricacies but you can read this very detailed explanation or watch the movie again with this new knowledge (I recommend this option). Anyway, back to Aby now…

I’ll talk about the actors now, thank you very much oh intelligent one. I think Robert Pattinson is underrated as an actor. His roles are so diverse and he amazes me every time I watch him on screen. For someone who practically had no idea what was going on while filming, he did a great job.

This was the first movie I saw John David Washington and I was really impressed with his acting, considering the nature of his role and the lack of precedence. I thought he was too uptight at some point but to be fair, he was facing the end of the world.

Kenneth Branagh is one person who’s had huge success both as an actor and a director. His role as the villain/antagonist is so captivating especially with the Russian accent. I think by now we can all agree that the Russian accent is the villain accent. Side note — I didn’t realize how short he was until I saw him here. He’s really very close to the ground.

This is actually a brilliant movie when you think about the production and special effects. It won the award for Best Visual effects at the 2021 Oscars and I assure you it was well deserved. Christopher Nolan can do no wrong in my eyes and I’m always looking forward to his next project.

I’ll rate this movie 7.5 out of 10.
Abisola Jegedehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190348096776244532noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-925740676720991489.post-66148242308779336262021-04-25T23:25:00.000+01:002021-04-26T09:37:03.606+01:00The Professor and the Madman
I've seen so many negative reviews about this movie on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic (mostly because they claim that the movie is a poor adaptation of the book). I haven't read the book, so this review is based solely on the movie adaptation. This film is a national treasure and must be cherished as such. Mel Gibson and Sean Penn pulled off one of their best performances and totally deserved to be recognized.

This is a story that tells about the development of the Oxford English Dictionary(OED) which began in 1878 by editors; James Murray and William Minor and how they came to form a close friendship over the course of their lives. Now you might think "how difficult could it have been to write a dictionary?" Very fucking hard if I must say, considering that there were no phones, and all research had to be done manually and they also had to write the history of each of the words. I'm exhausted just thinking about it.

James Murray is a professor hired by the Oxford University Press to develop the OED that would capture all English words ever known to man. In order to do this, he solicited help from booksellers all over London including William Minor, an American army doctor confined to a psychiatric hospital for killing an innocent man. William went on to become instrumental in the development of the dictionary and a lifelong friend of James.

Mel Gibson and Sean Penn were extraordinary. Let me start with Sean. This is a man who is on a very short list of actors with 2 Oscars for Best Actor and this was one movie he should have been recognized for. His performance as a mentally-ill person seeking redemption for the hurt he had caused was absolutely brilliant, while also shedding light on mental illness and how their feelings, however expressed are valid.

I grew up watching Mel Gibson so I'm not even surprised at his range and otherworldliness. His transformation into all of his roles is mind-blowing. In theory, the role of James Murray is boring as hell. Mel Gibson came and gave the character so much life and color and that is so rare to see in an actor. He's had his ups and downs in Hollywood but one thing you cannot take away from him is his commitment to all of his characters.

The Professor and the Madman is one movie I will not forget in a hurry. It does well to tell the story of how the OED was developed, but beneath all of that, it showed us the meaning of love, friendship, and forgiveness. In a world that is filled with chaos and people taking advantage of each other, it gives a certain reassurance in the belief that there are good people, and all you need is for just one person to see you for who you really are, and hear you when words are not being said, and everything will be alright.

I'll rate this movie 7.5 out of 10.
Abisola Jegedehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190348096776244532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-925740676720991489.post-59550905345119831192021-04-11T21:56:00.004+01:002021-04-14T08:31:54.242+01:00The Trial of the Chicago 7
I had been hesitant to see this film since it came out because I thought it was going to be one of those movies that was boring and typically portrayed black people as victims/slaves, because I'm honestly tired of all that but then someone convinced me otherwise and well it was so damn worth it.

An historical legal drama, this movie takes us through the trial of activists; Abbie Hoffman, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, Jerry Rubin, David Dellinger, Lee Weiner and John Froines, after the American government charged them with conspiracy to incite violence across state lines at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in 1968.

Originally called the Chicago 8 because Bobby Seale, the national leader of the Black Panther party was one of the defendants but was eventually given a mistrial during the trial.

In 1968, the DNC is about to take place in Chicago where the presidential candidate for the next election was going to be nominated. The President at the time, Lyndon B. Johnson had a reputation for increasing the number of soldiers that were sent to Vietnam to fight in the war and this obviously did not sit well with different groups of activists who felt the war was highly unnecessary and the government was only just sending soldiers to die. In response to this, they decided to stage a demonstration at the DNC to protest the war. As is the case with most protests in the 60s, there were clashes with the protesters and the police and the leaders of the protests (Chicago 8) were arrested. The trial that followed became very widespread and was closely watched by Americans at the time.

One of the reasons I liked this movie was Sacha Baron Cohen who played Abbie Hoffman, one of the defendants. If you've seen The Dictator, then you know who he is. Sacha is one of those fantastic actors who doesn't have to try so hard to fit into character. He plays the role so well that you assume that the real Abbie Hoffman was exactly like that. With Sacha, you expect drama, and I can assure you that he brought drama.

Frank Langella plays Judge Julius Hoffman, the Judge of the case. He plays a very biased, unqualified, government-siding and subtly racist judge and I was genuinely in awe of his performance. I was more in awe at the thought of the real Justice Hoffman; whom other attorneys deemed unqualified; having to preside over such a huge case. (If you're thinking what I'm thinking then you'd think that the government specifically chose him for the case).

Eddie Redmayne plays Tom Hayden, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II plays Bobby Seale, Mark Rylance plays William Kunstler (the defense lawyer) and Joseph Gordon Levitt plays Richard Schultz (the prosecutor).

I really loved this film and it's already been nominated for several awards and has won the Golden Globe award for Best Screenplay. Aaron Sorkin on just his second directorial debut created an astonishing masterpiece. Filled with so much courtroom drama that I don't think even Suits gave us, this movie draws you in that you don't realize it's over 2-hours long. I loved the dialogue and how the cast interacted like they had known each other a long time. If there was ever an award for Best Cast, this would be the team to win it. The character development was also absolutely beautiful to watch.

My favorite part of the movie was when the judge asked Tom Hayden to make a statement before he read out his sentencing and then he proceeded to read out 4,752 names of the soldiers that had died in the war up until that time, after the judge specifically told him to make his statement brief. It was a "spit in the face" at the judge and it was well-deserved.

Available on Netflix.

I'll rate this movie 9 out of 10.
Abisola Jegedehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190348096776244532noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-925740676720991489.post-6561123584144402602021-03-21T21:13:00.001+01:002021-04-14T08:31:32.192+01:00Coming 2 America
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the movies I'm looking forward to in the first half of the year. One of the movies I was looking forward to was Coming 2 America, considering how part 1 was so much fun to watch and brought back childhood memories. Well I guess I should have cherished those memories a lot longer because this is the absolute worst movie I have seen this year. How do you wait for 30years to deliver a sequel to one of the most beautiful movies of the 80s, only for it to come out so awful?

Basically, King Akeem finds out he has a son from his first visit to America and he goes back to find him so he can inherit his throne because only a male heir can inherit the throne of Zamunda. How is it possible that Akeem had not been to America in 30years considering that his wife is American? This movie felt like the producers pressed pause in 1988 and played it in 2021. There was no character development, literally everyone had the same damn roles and the routines were the same. They tried really really hard to make it look like part 1 that they ruined it.

Eddie Murphy was so shit. Like how can you be an Oscar-nominated actor and still pull such a mediocre performance? All he had to do was leave the damn classic alone. The only reason I can think of as to why such catastrophe was done was he has to somehow pay for child support; he has 10 children.

Wesley Snipes was a hit in the 90s/00s and to see what he has become in this movie was such a shame. That man did not give us the Blade trilogy and some of the best action films of the 90s to be degraded into a miniscule Idi Amin of Zamunda.

The only thing I cannot complain about were the costumes. Ruth Carter, who designed the costumes for Black Panther was the Costume designer of this movie and best believe, Africa was truly represented. If you looked closely, there was a bit of Wakanda in the costumes and was the only part of the movie that evolved in 30years.

Watch this movie at your own risk.

I'll rate it 4 out of 10.

Abisola Jegedehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190348096776244532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-925740676720991489.post-59037866533656626392021-02-28T22:16:00.007+01:002021-04-14T08:30:42.052+01:00Judas and the Black Messiah
"I am a Revolutionary"

These words have been echoing in my head since I watched this movie. If you don't feel like you are a revolutionary, maybe you watched Malcolm & Marie.

This is a story about betrayal.

Based on true events, this film describes the events that led to the assassination of Fred Hampton by the FBI in 1969.

Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Fred Hampton were people who dared to challenge the treatment of Black folks in America and got killed for it. At the time of his death, Fred was the Chairman of the Chicago chapter of the Black Panther Party(BPP).

Quick background on the BPP, they were a Black Power political organization that fought against police brutality and the oppression of Black people in America. After its inception, they became involved in community programs like providing healthcare services, free breakfast for children and were an advocate for class struggle.

Fred was so great at giving speeches and political rallies that the FBI; headed by J. Edgar Hoover, who I definitely think should be investigated for his abuse of power; thought it best to kill him.

Watching this movie was so triggering for me because today, 52 years after Fred's assassination, we're still fighting the same cause. The government is still trying to control its citizens.

This is so emotional to write because this shit is happening in Africa, particularly Nigeria. The government clamping down on the people they're supposed to be serving, the police brutalizing innocent citizens because we want a better life for ourselves and our children, black people being oppressed just because of the color of our skin. Would it get better? Would the people overcome? That was Fred Hampton's fight; to show the people that power belonged to them. He dared to change the narrative by being a revolutionary. So did Martin Luther King, so did Malcolm X. They were all assassinated by the same government but they sure as hell left a great legacy.

Daniel Kaluuya is such a brilliant actor. First let me just say that he's British so you can comprehend how difficult portraying a 1960s Chicago accent is. When he gave the speech just after he was released from jail, I was in tears screaming "I am a revolutionary". I haven't watched any of Fred Hampton's speeches, but I hear that Daniel was spot on and he gave such a powerful performance of him. You could tell that this was someone who was ready to live and die for the people, and he sure did.

Lakeith Stanfield played William O'Neal and he was phenomenal. Every twinkle in his eyes, every expression on his face, his body language showed you exactly what he was going through at each point in time. If you were to describe a rat to anyone, all you have to do is mention Lakeith from Judas and the Black Messiah. He was so good I almost hate him.

Everyone gave fantastic performances really. It's difficult to watch this movie and not get triggered as a black person and as a Nigerian. It's even worse knowing that the government, whose skin color is the same as ours treats its citizens like shit.

One day though, in my country, I hope to say that Power truly belongs to the people.

For now, enjoy my reviews.

I'll rate it 8.5/10.

Abisola Jegedehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190348096776244532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-925740676720991489.post-58323960035864661002021-02-14T20:18:00.000+01:002021-02-14T20:18:08.859+01:00Malcolm & Marie
This is NOT a love story.

If you had no idea what a toxic relationship is, this movie shows you exactly what it is.

Malcolm and Marie have just arrived from the premiere of a film that Malcolm had just made. Marie enters the house with an attitude so naturally you ask, "What did Malcolm do?". Turns out he did not thank Marie during his "thank you" speech. He thanks literally everyone but the person he claims to love. At this point, in my head I'm thinking "Oh hell no, hell fucking no". How can you forget to thank me, the love of your life? Anyhoo, things quickly escalate from there and there's a series of arguments where they both say really nasty shit to each other. The verbal abuse is so bad that I honestly don't know how they move on from the night.

John David Washington and Zendaya give beautiful performances. For John, the apple did not fall far from the tree. After watching him in Tenet, I didn't think he'd convincingly pull off a romantic movie. I was so wrong. There was a scene where he went on a rant for about 10mins and that had to be the most intense I felt during the film. It was so raw and effortless, I literally heaved a sigh of relief when he was done. Reminded me of the scene in Training Day that basically gave his father(Denzel Washington) the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Zendaya has proven herself with this movie just how much of a great actress she is. She's shown her maturity and ability to pull off any role with this movie and she's only 24. That scene where she pretends to have relapsed gave me chills. It's no surprise though as she won the Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role in Euphoria where she played a junkie.

This movie takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions. One minute you think they're moving on, the next minute they're screaming at each other like lunatics. I don't know whether to call it love but there's a strong connection between both characters. They are at a point where they're past the "break-up" phase, which is why they don't think there's any reason to try to please the other person or make them feel special.

I totally enjoyed the movie. The monochromatic effect and cinematography was so beautiful to watch as it gave the movie its authenticity and rawness. The dialogue was intriguing; I had to pause to use the dictionary a few times. It will definitely be nominated for a lot of awards this year.

My take from this movie, let's just endeavor to thank our partners whenever we give a speech.

I'll rate it 8 out of 10.

Abisola Jegedehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190348096776244532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-925740676720991489.post-34088064089927396692021-01-31T21:15:00.006+01:002021-01-31T22:51:00.965+01:00MOVIES TO WATCH OUT FOR IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2021
With the chaos that 2020 brought with it, many movies slated for release during the year had to be pushed forward to 2021.

Here's a few of the movies I'm most anticipating in the first half of the year.

Tom and Jerry

If you're like me and you grew up watching the cartoon, and you wouldn't mind reliving your childhood, then you should see this movie.

Tom and Jerry decide to call a truce on their rivalry and go their separate ways but end up crossing paths in an hotel where Jerry has been causing mayhem and Tom is hired by an employee to catch him.

There's bound to be drama and some nostalgia while watching it.

Starring Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Pena and Ken Jeong.

Click Here to watch the trailer: Tom and Jerry

Out February 26!!!

Coming to America 2

33 years after the release of the first installment, we get a sequel to the movie. Based on real events, this is one movie I'm itching to see most especially because of Daniel Kaluuya's performance. I think he's a very versatile actor and he would kill the role. Also, the movie was named one of the best films of 2020 by the National Board of Review. That's more than enough reason to watch it.

Also starring Lakeith Stanfield and Dominique Fishback.

Click Here to watch the Trailer: Judas and the Black Messiah

Out February 12!!!

Godzilla vs Kong

Monster versus Monster equals destruction.

I'm always here for destruction.

Starring Alexander Skarsgard, Millie Bobby Brown and Rebecca Hall.

Click Here to watch the Trailer: Godzilla vs Kong

Out March 26!!!

Hope you enjoyed my reviews and you are as excited as I am to see some of them at least.

Abisola Jegedehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190348096776244532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-925740676720991489.post-49481720084201567892021-01-17T18:58:00.003+01:002021-01-17T19:41:43.536+01:00KNIVES OUTA classic game of cat and mouse, Knives Out is a brilliant movie that delves into the life and family of Harlan Thrombey, a renowned novelist who commits suicide on the night of his 85th birthday and leaves all his wealth to his nurse Marta Cabrera.
This looks like a closed case until Private Investigator Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) shows up one week after Harlan's death to investigate further, implying that a crime may have been committed.

As always, everyone is a suspect and everyone has something to hide.

Could it be his unfaithful son-in-law, Richard (Don Johnson) who doesn't want his wife to find out about his infidelity? Or his sniveling son Walt (Michael Shannon) who constantly had disagreements with Harlan because he did not want his book turned into movies (which would have made Walt rich). Or his daughter-in-law Joni (Toni Collette) whom he had just cut off her allowance for stealing from him, and finally his black sheep grandson Ransom (Chris Evans) who was seen storming off out of Harlan's office on the night of his death.

Only Harlan's nurse, Marta, who has a regurgitative condition which prevents her from lying, seemingly has nothing to gain from his death, or does she?

Daniel Craig plays the PI with a Southern accent and might I say, this is one of his best roles for me. He assumes the role with finesse and fluidity and basically puts all the pieces together. Helping with the investigation is Detective Lieutenant Elliot (Lakeith Stanfield) who was more of a moral compass for Benoit Blanc.

Filled with an ensemble cast, this was one of the top 10 movies of 2019.

Harlan is played by the legendary Christopher Plummer, he had a very short time in the movie but did not cease to leave a mark. Jamie Lee Curtis plays Linda, his eldest daughter, Ana de Armas plays Marta (she stars alongside Daniel Craig in the upcoming Bond movie; No time to Die). Also, we see Chris Evans in his first major role after Avengers and he's still got it.

I'll give it 8 out of 10.
Abisola Jegedehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11190348096776244532noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-925740676720991489.post-4242559912839203162020-11-22T20:56:00.026+01:002020-11-23T14:23:09.106+01:00NO TIME TO DIE

Our favorite agent is coming back to the big screen for
another go-at-it to prove why he's the best at what he does. This would be
Daniel Craig’s last appearance as James Bond after five movies. Personally, I do
not think he pulled off the Special Agent as superbly as his predecessors (Pierce Brosnan and
Sean Connery). I thought he was too rigid and did not allow himself to embody
the role.

I think when it comes to James Bond movies, the storyline isn’t
anything that hasn’t been told before. The execution is what to look out for: technology
that you don’t imagine could ever exist, exotic cars that were created just for
the film and crazy fight scenes that would leave you on the edge of your seat. No Time to Die was supposed to
be released earlier this year but due to the pandemic, it was pushed to April 2021.

Our MI6 fam as always is there to keep the world from
blowing to pieces. Agent M played by Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort in Harry Potter),
Moneypenny played by Naomie Harris and Q, the brains of MI6, played by Ben Whishaw. Rami Malek, who

plays the role of the antagonist. I’m especially eager to see this because I
think Rami is such a talented actor and I have no doubt that he would do
justice to his role. Also, No Time to Die introduces a couple of female agents:
Lashana Lynch (from Captain Marvel) and Ana de Armas (from Blade Runner 2049)
who turn out to be just as sleek as Mr. Bond and would just as well receive
good screen time. Hans Zimmer, a genius at composing music and soundtracks for many films like Gladiator, Inception and The Dark Knight trilogy to mention a few was also cast as the music composer.

This movie will join the category of the "Most Expensive Movies" ever made with a budget of $250million and I expect that it will cross the One Billion dollar mark at the box office based on how long we've waited for another James Bond movie.

Not just the Joker, but Heath Ledger's Joker. I think he has to be the best villain ever. He even got a posthumous Oscar for the role. So for me to see that a Joker movie is coming out soon, and is played by Joaquin Phoenix, then they have my full attention. I've known Phoenix since he played the role of Commodus in Ridley Scott's Gladiator. He played the role so well that I hated him in every other movie I saw him. I think this movie is about to change my mind though.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Everyone has a history, a story that tells the decisions we made and the paths we crossed to get to where we are. Even someone as unpredictable as the Joker was human once and we're going to be able to see the humane side of this super-villain.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">The movie takes us through the journey of how Arthur Fleck, a man disregarded by the society as a mentally ill and impoverished failed stand-up comedian, came to be known as the Joker and Batman's archenemy.<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zazie_Beetz" style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif;">Zazie Beetz<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> plays his love interest. I know right, the Joker had a love interest before Harley Quinn.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This is the first ever stand-alone movie about the Joker and from the look of things, it's going to be an Oscar-nominated movie.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">October 4, 2019.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Anticipate!
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: medium;">So I decided to do a list of my favorite TV series of the millennium. I had a long list to choose from but here's my best of the best:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
1. Game of Thrones <span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">- A<span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-size: large;"> timeless production which will go down in history as one of the best novel adaptations ever. Created by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_R._R._Martin" style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-weight: normal;">George R.R Martin<span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif;"> and with an ensemble cast of over 200 actors and actresses including <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_dinklage" style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-weight: normal;">Peter Dinklage<span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif;">, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kit_Harrington" style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-weight: normal;">Kit Harrington<span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif;">, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lena_Headey" style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-weight: normal;">Lena Headey<span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif;"> and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emilia_Clarke" style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-weight: normal;">Emilia Clarke<span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif;">. Set in medieval times, it follows the stories of different families who are fighting for a seat on the Iron throne. Anyone who sits on it rules the seven kingdoms, which is literally the world. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_of_Thrones" style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif; font-weight: normal;">Game of Thrones<span style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif;"> requires a lot of commitment and is so unpredictable that you get scared that they're going to kill off a character soon enough but in the end is totally worth it.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I'll rate it 9 out of 10.
Avatar: The last air-bender - I never would have thought that I'd be so engrossed with an animated TV series as I was with Avatar. It's a family show that's full of sarcasm and humor which made it more enjoyable. Human civilization is divided into 4 nations (earth, air, water and fire) and in each of these nations, some select people have the ability to control these elements by bending them to their will. The Avatar is the only person who has the ability to master all the 4 elements and is expected to use this ability to maintain peace and unity in the world. Fire Lord Ozai has declared war with the other three nations and it is up to Avatar Aang and his friends (Katara, Sokka, Toph and Zuko) to help with his quest to restore peace back to the world.
Set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana in the early 1980s, a boy named Will is abducted by a creature which arises as a result of the experiments. Simultaneously, a human subject with superpowers named Eleven escapes from the laboratory and ends up assisting Will's friends to find him. The sophistication of the characters, the costumes, the drama would make you wish you were alive to witness that time in history. It tells of the lives of Lord Grantham (played by Hugh Bonneville) and his family alongside his domestic servants and how the great events in history at the time which include the sinking of the Titanic, the Second World War, the Spanish Influenza among others affected and altered their lives and the society. Dame Maggie Smith plays Lord Grantham's mother and Elizabeth McGovern plays Lord Grantham's wife. If you love drama and you're very patient then this series is for you. I guarantee that it is a wonderful experience.
I'm back. I've been busy with work and exams. I promise to post as often as possible from now on.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">So I decided to write something on movies to look out for in 2017. Most of them are remakes and sequels though. Here goes:
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">1. The Fate of the Furious aka Fast 8 - So you know how Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) emphasizes on the importance of family and how you can't turn your back on them even when they do? Well, Dom turns his back on his family and I can't even think of any reason why he would do that except there's a bomb in each one of his crew's heads. The Fast and Furious series has improved over the years especially with the action scenes and I can't wait to see what Fast 8 has in store for us.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">2. Spiderman: Homecoming - Watching Tom Holland's performance in Captain America: Civil War is enough reason to want to watch this movie. He has a great sense of humor and is able to portray Spiderman as a typical teenager with teenage problems. Oh and by the way, Ironman stars in the movie.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">

Groot (Vin Diesel) has more "I am Groot" lines as he's young and has more energy than the lazy and slow Groot in the prequel.
<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; font-size: medium;">

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">After about a 3 year hiatus from the movie industry, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelina_Jolie" style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif;">Angelina Jolie<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> comes back with <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maleficent_(film)" style="font-family: georgia, "times new roman", serif;">Maleficent<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">, an incredible adaptation of the popular Snow White story but this time all focus was on the evil Queen. Have you ever wondered why villains are villains? Ever thought if villains at one point in time had an iota of goodness in them or what happened to them to become monsters? Personally, I do not care. Just let the hero win at the end of the day.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;"> Maleficent was a happy and fun-loving fairy whom everybody liked in her kingdom until she was 16 and she fell in love with a boy named Stefan (Sharlto Copley). Stefan was an orphan who had little or nothing for himself and was determined to live the good life. The King of the human kingdom, after being injured by Maleficent in a war decided to enthrone whoever kills her. Stefan took on the task but was unable to kill Maleficent, instead he cut off her wings. Devastated by the betrayal, Maleficent goes dark and is filled with hatred. She turns a bird into a man named Diaval (Sam Riley) and she uses him as her eyes in the castle. As a result of his narcissistic and devious schemes, Stefan becomes king and he then goes on to have a child, Aurora. The baby's christening was interrupted by Maleficent who after making a grand entrance places a curse on her that on her 16th birthday, she would prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a sleep like death and can only be awakened by true love's kiss. The King entrusts Aurora in the care of three incompetent pixies and tells them to take her away for 16 years and a day. Maleficent secretly follows them and watches the child. Because of their incompetence, Maleficent began to play the role of a mother to Aurora (Elle Fanning). I really don't know why she did because she already cursed her but maybe it was a good thing that she did. Aurora grew up into a bright inquisitive girl who wondered about the world around her. Maleficent starts to feel affection for her, some sort of responsibility towards her. That's probably what happens when you've watched someone grow into what they've become. She tries to revoke the curse but is unsuccessful. As fate would have it, after a series of events, Aurora goes to the castle on her 16th birthday and of course, she pricks herself. Maleficent was torn and hated herself for the hate she had towards Aurora. She apologizes and guess what, she kisses her. We all know from Frozen (I'm guessing all of us have seen it by now) that true love isn't always what we think it is. She wakes up and all is well again but not before Maleficent and King Stefan engage in one last fight.

Angelina Jolie's performance was intriguing, partly because we haven't seen her on screen in a while and also because she tried to portray a villain. She carried the persona of the evil queen and also had the charisma. The fact that she started using some form of accent in the middle of the film was worrisome because it felt like she was trying to fit into character. As a villain she did not give us much to hold on to. In fact, the real villain was Stefan who did not have to try too hard for us to hate him. The special effects which were awesome by the way were blindly overshadowed by Jolie's performance. She was just all over the place. Her costume portrayed her character well in that without her horns, she was the hero and with it she was the villain. Elle Fanning was all smiling and happy, she really did not have much to do. Nobody should be that happy in real life. The character that I liked the most was Diaval. He was a loyal and faithful servant to Maleficent but also made his thoughts known to her and whether she said it or not, she listened to him and he knew it.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">
Angelina Jolie made this movie, literally. It captured the basic Snow White story but would be forgotten in no time.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">
I'll give the movie 3.5.

<span style="font-family: "georgia" , "times new roman" , serif;">Rachel McAdams plays Mary, Tim's love interest. She plays the role well and differently despite the fact that she's played a time traveler's wife before (Check out The Time Traveler's wife). There was so much chemistry between Tim and Mary, it was like they had known each other their whole lives. Bill Nighy plays Tim's father. This role is so different from the roles we usually see him in such as the Underworld series and Pirates of the Caribbean. He was so playful and friendly and I had fun watching him act.

There were also some Harry Potter characters, Richard Griffiths who played Harry's stepfather had a role as an actor in a theater. Domhnall Gleeson, the main character also starred in Harry Potter as Ron Weasely's brother.

The portrayal of all the characters was good, I think all the actors felt at home with their character. I like the fact that his ability to time-travel was a secret throughout the movie, nobody found out and there wasn't unnecessary drama.

I'll give the movie 4 stars.<!--[if gte mso 9]><xml>

(Adam Sandler), who recently lost his wife,
and a mother of 2 boys, Lauren Reynolds (Drew
Barrymore), who’s recently divorced. They go on a blind date that turns
out terrible and somehow they end up in South Africa for a 1-week trip, both
families. They even share the same suite. Basically, the movie is about both
families trying to blend together while on the trip.
to have fun in his movies, he’s done that in his last 4 movies and it’s already
cliché, he should come up with something new. The only performance I liked was
that of Jim Friedman’s youngest daughter, Lou. She was so cute and adorable.
